हिरकणी बद्दल परिचय/Introduction about Hirkani:
हिरकणी ही एक दूधदासी होती जी छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांच्या काळात रायगड किल्ल्याच्या पायथ्याशी राहात होती. त्यामुळे तिची कथा १७व्या शतकाच्या मध्यात म्हणजे सुमारे ३५० वर्षांपूर्वीची आहे. तिच्या धाडसाचे आणि बाळावरील प्रेमाचे किस्से महाराष्ट्र राज्यात नाही तर देशात अनेकदा सांगितले जातात. हिरकणी खरी की आख्यायिका होती यावर इतिहासकार वाद करतात. तथापि तिची मातृत्व वृत्ती वास्तविक आणि सार्वत्रिक आहे.
हिरकणी ही एक नोकरदार आई होती जिला ‘कोजागिरी’ पौर्णिमेच्या रात्री दूध देण्यासाठी रायगडावर जाण्यासाठी तिच्या बाळाला घरी ठेवावे लागले. दुर्दैवाने तिला उशीर झाला आणि रात्री किल्ल्याचे दरवाजे बंद असताना सूर्यास्तापूर्वी किल्ला सोडता आला नाही. गेट उघडण्यासाठी अधिकृत परवानगीने अनेक मौल्यवान तास काढून घेतले असते. तिचे बाळ आधीच तिच्या परत येण्याची वाट पाहत होते. ती उभ्या उंच कड्याच्या माथ्यावर हताश होऊन उभी राहिली आणि अंधारलेल्या दरीत हजार फुटांपेक्षा जास्त खाली तिच्या गावातील मंद दिवे बघत होती. लवकरच आईच्या प्रेमाने आणि दृढनिश्चयाने सर्व अडचणींवर मात केली आणि ती आपल्या बाळाला मिठी मारण्यासाठी आणि स्तनपान करण्यासाठी उंच कड्यावरून खाली आली.
Hirkani was a milkmaid who lived at the base of Raigad fort during the times of the great king Shivaji. Hence her story dates back to the middle of 17th century i.e. about 350 years back. Tales of her courage and love for her baby are often told in the state of Maharashtra. Historians debate whether Hirkani was real or legend. However her mothering instinct is real and universal.
Hirkani was a working mother who had to leave her baby behind to go up to Raigad to deliver the milk on the occasion of full moon night of ‘Kojagiri’. Unfortunately she got delayed and could not leave the fort before sunset when the fort doors were closed for the night. An official permission to open the gates would have taken away many valuable hours. Her baby was already awaiting her return for quite some time. She stood frustrated at the top of a vertical cliff looking down at the dim lights of her village more than a thousand feet below in the dark valley. Soon the mother’s love and determination took over against all odds and she climbed down the cliff to embrace and breastfeed her baby.
हिरकणीची कहाणी जगभरातील हजारो काम करणाऱ्या महिलांची प्रतिनिधी आहे ज्यांना स्तनपान आणि काम एकत्र करण्यासाठी अडचणींचा डोंगर पार केला जातो. ला लेचे लीग (अमेरिकन मदर सपोर्ट ग्रुप) ने 2006 मध्ये 35 देश आणि 6 खंडातील अशा आधुनिक आईच्या प्रेरणादायी कथांचे संकलन प्रकाशित केले. हिरकणीच्या कथेला ‘हिरकणीच्या मुली’ असे शीर्षक आणि या पुस्तकाची मुख्य कथा मिळाली. ‘हिरकणीचा खडक’ (स्थानिक भाषेत ‘हिरकणीचा बुरुज’) च्या फोटोने पुस्तकाला त्याचे मुखपृष्ठ दिले. ‘हिरकणीची खोली’ ही या यशोगाथेची सातत्य म्हणून बीपीएनआय महाराष्ट्राने मांडलेली संकल्पना आहे.
हे आव्हान पेलण्यासाठी तिला योग्य वातावरण आणि संवेदनशीलता प्रदान करणे हा प्रत्येक काम करणाऱ्या आईचा हक्क आहे आणि प्रत्येक कामाच्या ठिकाणी कर्तव्य आहे. याच आव्हानामुळे ‘हिरकणीची खोली’ या कल्पनेला जन्म दिला जातो.
Hirkani’s story is representative of thousands of working women world over who scale a mountain of difficulties to combine breastfeeding and working. La Leche League (American Mother support Group) in 2006 published a compilation of inspiring stories of such modern mother’s from 35 countries and 6 continents. Hirkani’s story provided the title ‘Hirkani’s Daughters’ and lead story to this book. A photo of ‘Hirkani’s Cliff’ (‘Hirkani’s Buruj’ in local language) gave the book its cover page. ‘Hirkani’s Room’ is a concept introduced by BPNI Maharashtra as a continuum of this success story.
It is the right of every working mother and duty of every workplace to provide an appropriate environment and sensitivity to help her to meet this challenge. It is this very challenge that gives birth to the idea of ‘Hirkani’s Room’.
हिरकणीच्या खोलीची संकल्पना BPNI महाराष्ट्राने 2007 मध्ये स्तनदा मातांसाठी कामाच्या ठिकाणी/सार्वजनिक ठिकाणी आईचे दूध व्यक्त करण्याची आणि साठवण्याची सुविधा म्हणून मांडली होती. जर मुलाला कामावर आणले जाऊ शकते किंवा आईसोबत असेल तर आई देखील या खोलीत स्तनपान करू शकते.हिरकणीची खोली नियोक्ताच्या त्याच्या कर्मचार्‍यांच्या आणि विशेषतः स्तनदा मातांच्या कल्याणासाठी बांधिलकी दर्शवते. हे दर्शविते की कामाची जागा आई आणि मुलासाठी अनुकूल आहे.
Hirakni room was conceptualized by BPNI Maharashtra in 2007 as a facility for breastfeeding mothers to express and store breast milk at workplaces/public places. If the child can be brought to work or accompanied by the mother, the mother can also breastfeed in this room. The breastfeeding room shows the employer’s commitment to the welfare of its employees and especially to nursing mothers. This shows that the work place is favorable for mother and child.
हिरकणीच्या खोलीबद्दल/About Hirkani’s Room:
हिरकणीची खोली ही स्तनदा मातांसाठी आईचे दूध व्यक्त करण्यासाठी आणि साठवण्यासाठी कामाच्या ठिकाणी एक सुविधा आहे. जर बाळाला काही अंतराने कामाच्या ठिकाणी आणता येत असेल तर आई देखील या खोलीत बाळाला स्तनपान करू शकते. हा टप्पा I आहे. जर शक्य असेल तर सुविधा खालीलप्रमाणे टप्पा II आणि III मध्ये वाढवता येईल:
टप्पा II: क्रेच जिथे आई काळजीवाहू घेऊन येते
तिसरा टप्पा: नियोक्त्याद्वारे काळजीवाहूच्या तरतुदीसह क्रॅच

वरील संकल्पना ही टप्पा II आणि III प्रकारच्या सुविधेपासून थेट सुरू होण्याच्या विद्यमान संकल्पनेपासून एक नमुना बदल आहे. तथापि, आईने बाळाला कामाच्या ठिकाणी आणण्याची व्यवहार्यता आणि नियोक्तासाठी आवश्यक जागा आणि संपूर्ण क्रॅचसाठी मनुष्यबळ प्रदान करण्याची व्यवहार्यता एकत्र करणे सोपे नाही. म्हणूनच हिरकणीच्या खोलीची संकल्पना त्याच्या सर्वात मूलभूत स्वरुपात (टप्पा I) केवळ अभिव्यक्तीसाठी आणि आईचे दूध साठवण्यासाठी जागा उपलब्ध करून देण्यापासून सुरू होते. या सर्वात मूलभूत स्वरुपात अनेक नियोक्ते ते प्रदान करतात आणि मोठ्या टक्के मातांनी ते वापरण्याची शक्यता असते. हिरकणीची खोली ही नियोक्त्याच्या त्यांच्या कर्मचाऱ्यांच्या कल्याणासाठी आणि विशेषतः स्तनपान करणाऱ्या मातांच्या हितासाठी असलेल्या वचनबद्धतेचे प्रतिनिधित्व करते. हे दर्शविते की द

Hirkani’s Room is a facility at a workplace for lactating mothers to express and store breastmilk. If baby can be brought to workplace at intervals then mother can also breastfeed the baby in this room. This is Stage I. If feasible the facility can be expanded in to stage II & III as follows:
Stage II: Crèche where mother brings the caretaker
Stage III: Crèche with provision of caretaker by the employer
(This staging based on physical facilities has been conceptualized by BPNI Maharashtra. Staging is irrespective of lactation support that coexists)
The above concept is a paradigm shift from the existing concept of starting with Stage II and III type of facility directly. However the feasibility for the mother to bring baby to the workplace and feasibility for the employer to provide necessary space and manpower for a full fledged Crèche are not easy to combine. Hence the concept of Hirkani’s Room in its most basic forms (Stage I) starts with just provision of a place for expression and storage of breastmilk. It is in this most basic form that many employers are most likely to provide it and a much larger percentage of mothers more likely to use it. Hirkani’s room is a representation of employer’s commitment to the well-being of their employees in general and lactating mothers in particular. It shows that the workplace is Mother and Baby Friendly.
